An idea of creating a tourist site named “The Land of the Świętokrzyskie Legends” arose when the members of the Local Action Group “Around Łysa Góra” were paying a visit to the Hobbits’ Village in Sieraków Sławieński in the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship in 2005. At that time, a group of enthusiasts from the Bieliny Commune, which used to be a very wealthy area, have decided to revive the unknown Slavic mythology, as well as the legends and stories from the area of Łysa Góra. They wanted to adapt them to the modern tourist requirements by using outside activities, similar to those from Sieraków Sławieński.
The outside activities of “The Land of the Świętokrzyskie Legends” are an interesting proposition for active leisure, it is also a connection of fun and education. It has the form of a computer strategic game transferred into reality, while its plot is based on the local legends. On the tracks there are figures from ancient times of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, taken from a variety of folk legends and stories, which were passed on from generation to generation by the local people. The participants form a tribe which is competing with other, similar groups. In the beginning they get a map, on the basis of which they are to reach the destination. Along the way the legendary characters either help or disturb them. The length of the tracks is usually about 2-3 km and it runs through the most interesting sites of the area – the dark and mysterious backwoods or picturesque, striped fields. On their way the gamers meet characters like: hermits who walk these paths to spread the Christian faith among the local people, beautiful witches who cast charms on men, wise herbalists who give advice on how to defeat the lurking danger, the Mokosz goddess who tells how to conquer your man’s feelings, the robber Kaka who searches for his beloved, Leszy who protects the forest from evil men, Płanetnik sending hail and heavy rain, Południca seizing the harvesters who went fielding at noon, the malicious Licho which plays nasty tricks on the local people, Błędnica who “tangles” the paths and makes it impossible to find the right way, Topielica trying to “drown” the maidens’ wreaths on the St. John’s night and many other figures form the early-Slavic culture of our ancestors. The games are of socialising and educational character. Thanks to the interesting ideas of the authors, the participants have an opportunity to get to know the history, legends and the characters connected with them, while the attractive activities and “missions” to fulfil help the gamers to integrate and entertain themselves.
The Land of the Świętokrzyskie Legends is a great place for active leisure,
as well as, fun and education.
