The Museum of the White Eagle in Skarżysko-Kamienna has been existent since 1969 and resides in a 19th-century historic building of the “Rejów” steelworks. Its collection is second only to the Museum of the Polish Army, it contains mostly historic war weaponry, but there are also documents, uniforms and other military equipment.
The permanent display covers an exposition on defensive war actions of 1939, as well as the equipment and uniforms of the Polish Army soldiers from the September Campaign. Nevertheless, the most popular among visitors appears to be the outdoor exhibition of artillery, anti-tank and anti-aircraft guns, tanks, armoured vehicles and aircraft. The showpieces, unique on a national scale, are: the torpedo boat ORP “Odważny” and the German self-propelled gun StuG IV. What is more, an exploration group, functioning by the museum, is carrying out archeological research in order to obtain and reconstruct new objects for the exhibitions.
The children exposition is very impressive, yet, the life-size army equipment should be interesting also for the adults.
