The picturesquely set Klimontów is a place where one can find an astonishing Baroque collegiate, erected between 1643 and1650. It was founded by chancellor Jerzy Ossoliński and is considered one of the most original and beautiful buildings of the 17th C. Built on a plan of an ellipse, according to the design of Wawrzyniec Senes, the temple resembles the architecture of the Church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. It is worth noting that Wawrzyniec Senes, who worked for the Ossoliński brothers – Krzysztof and Jerzy, designed also one of the most impressive 17th-century Polish aristocratic residences – the Krzyżtopór Castle in Ujazd.
Inside the Klimontów temple, one should see: stuccos made before 1647 by Jan Chrzciciel Falconi (Giovanni Battista Falconi), early-Baroque portals, Rococo polychromes on the walls and vaulting of the vestibule, four altars, a Rococo choir and organ surmounted with a figure of king David holding a harp and accompanied by angels. The Klimontów collegiate is also a resting place for many generations of the Ossoliński family who lived in the Świętokrzyskie region.
When being in the village, it is also worth seeing a post-Dominican church and monastery, founded by Jan Zbigniew Ossoliński and built between 1613 and1623. Nowadays, it is a residence of a secondary school. Another interesting object is a classicistic synagogue from 1851.
The Ossoliński family marked their presence in the history of Poland by founding many monumental buildings, unique in terms of architecture. The best example of such philanthropy is the collegiate in Klimontów.
